sub-floor Preparation
Any flooring installation is only as good as the sub-floor upon which it is laid. What may initially appear to be minor imperfections in level or smoothness in a sub floor can often be drastically amplified when the floor finish is eventually laid.
Smooth, single colour (Uni) glue-down floorcoverings such as contract vinyl flooring or rubber flooring present surfaces that are particularly critical of the sub-floor upon which they are laid. With some of these products, even adhesive trowel marks can show through if care isn’t taken.
It is therefore important to use the appropriate sub-floor preparation system to suit both the substrate and the planned floorcovering.
Subfloor preparation products are becoming increasingly specialist due to the pressure for faster installation times, ultra smooth finishes and instant solutions to a multitude of problems.
The range of subfloor preparation products extends from the established general purpose underlayments through to high performance specialist underlayments. These have been formulated in response to specific flooring problems and requirements. These products are generally complemented by repair and finishing compounds, all designed to make floor preparation easier and quicker, ensuring a first class finish everytime.
Harmony Carpets also offer a service and product range for the measurement and control of subfloor moisture. Using a Protimeter MMS subfloor moisture measurement tool, we can get instant indications of potentially problematic moisture levels, and if found to be required, full testing can be carried out with a Digital Hygrometer.
Where moisture issues are discovered, we are able to provide remedial treatment for damp floors by using one or two part / one or two coat epoxy liquid Damp Proof Membranes. These can be quickly and easily laid with fast recoating/overcoating times by using chemical accelerators.
In situations where a liquid damp proof membrances would not be appropriate, or where sub-floor contamination is a problem, a sheet Isolator Membrane can act as both a ‘same-day’ fast-track DPM solution, or as a barrier between the contaminated subfloor and the new floorcovering.
