Vinyl tile and plank products are similar in construction to Heterogenous vinyls, but are more rigid. Tile sizes can vary enormously form brand to brand, but generally come in 12” x 12”, 18” x 12”, and occasionally 16” x 16”. Wood plank effects generally come in 4” x 36” or 8” x 32”.
Popular manufacturers include Amtico, Karndean and Forbo Nairn’s Allura. These vinyls are very hard wearing and come in a variety of finishes. These range from realistic stone and wood effects, featuring synchronised embossing (This is an effect whereby the wood texture on the wear layer matches the grain pattern of the decorative wood design beneath it). Also available these days are abstract designs with a 3D effect.
