Contract Vinyl

Contract sheet vinyl is broadly available in 2 types of construction, Homogeneous (constituting of the same material / pattern throughout the thickness of the vinyl), and Heterogeneous (composed of layers, and finished with a PVC wear-layer applied over a decorative design).
Whichever format is used, Contract Vinyl is extremely hardwearing, and requires full-bed adhesion to a sub-floor. It is fairly difficult to fit, and therefore only recommended for the brave DIY-er. It is used almost exclusively in heavy traffic contract situations such as schools and hospitals. Any joins required in an installation can be heat-welded, and the floor is easily patch-repaired, again by heat-welding.
Probably the most popular type of contract vinyl is safety flooring. Suitable for very high traffic areas where optimum slip-resistance is required, safety flooring is generally of a speckled appearance with carborumdum chips set into it, giving it s twinkly appearance. Popular brands would be Altro Walkway, Polysafe Standard and Tarkett Safetred Spectrum (which benefits from Polyurethane Reinforcement, or "PUR ")
